Stanley Février (b. Port-Au-Prince, 1976) is a Canadian conceptual artist known for his installations that focus on social and political research and issues of social change. Février sees art as a vehicle for social transformation and change, and takes an acute look at the social dynamics taking shape in Western societies, questioningthe value of life in a context of globalization, through contemporary tragedies. His work includes sculpture, drawing, video, photography and détournement, as well as site-specific infiltrations. Through installations, performances and participatory art projects, Février attempts to create spaces of becoming for making art.
He lives and works in Longueuil and Montreal. A graduate in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in 2018, his recent artistic and conceptual concerns are based on institutional critique, identity issues and the violence and inequalities engendered by the latter. Stanley Février is a member and founder of the artist-run center Agrégat (2010), managing director of MAC Invisibles (MAC-I, 2019) and Musée d'Art Actuel/Département des Invisibles (2020), co-founder of the laboratory event JE/US (2020), and founder of the SINGULIERS Fair.
His work has been the subject of over twenty solo exhibitions, including Menm vye tintin & les vies possibles, Centre d’exposition de l’Université de Montréal (2023), Sobey Price: La fin d’un monde, Ottawa Museum of Fine Arts (2022), MAADI: Viva l’Artista, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (2022), Is being human an absolute evil, Center EXPRESSION, Ste-Hyacinthe (2022), Menm vye tintin & Impossible lives, Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec (2021-2022), Musée d'Art Actuel/Department of the Invisibles, Web work, Galerie de l’UQAM (2021), Possible lives, Musée d'art contemporain des Laurentides (2021-2022), and America… with impunity, Maison de la culture de Longueuil ( 2019).
